A small group of 8th Grade Ambassadors will accompany Jeri Chandler to purchase these supplies next week! "You all did amazing, and I'm so excited for the Christmas meals that you will be able to provide. To the 7th grade group, you will get your pizza party before Christmas break!" - Jeri Chandler, PTA Secretary We had our most engaged year with Festival of Trees this year! First, our CAA 8th Grade Communication & Media Arts Students collaborated with Quad City Art to help cover the event by creating social media posts in the form of videos and graphics. They posted about the many attractions, behind the scenes, volunteers, display awards, and much more! Next, all grades of CAA dancers hit the Festival stage to perform on November 30!
Finally, a group of our 8th grade Ambassadors joined QC Arts staff and other volunteers to take down Festival of Trees. The trees must be packaged so they can be shipped properly and without damage to those who purchased them. Thank you to Olivia, Charlie, Laney, Maya, Lola, Chris, Anastasia, Shaylynn, Ellianna, and Isabel for your volunteerism. We received many compliments from QC Arts about your hard work and professionalism. On Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22, seven CAA 8th graders performed as part of the LoveGirls Magazine's annual Girls on Fire Conference.
Zoey and Maya sang and played the ukulele to the song "Scars to Your Beautiful" while and Abigail turned the poetry of Rupi Kaur into beautiful monologues about the female experience. Finally, a trio of dancers including Mackenzie, Laney, and Claire performed to "Salute" as a tribute to women in the military. 6th grade Visual Arts and Communication & Media Arts classes will be designing a fully immersive installation exhibit in conjunction with the Figge's exhibition by Didier William.
Last week, students met with Brian Allen from the Figge Art Museum to learn about the project. The exhibit will be installed in Studio 1 to serve as an interactive component for museum visitors. A Project Based Learning (PBL) approach will be integrated into the curriculum and students will be posed with the following essential questions: - How can we design an interactive space that is inspired by the themes found in Didier William's work? - How can we communicate our memories within a museum space? - How do memories and personal experiences build connections within our community? - How can our installation exhibit reach a diverse audience? Students will assess what they know and need to know about the challenge of designing a fully immersive installation exhibit. Their work will be guided by professional experts in museum programming, education, and art. Students will be responsible for designing and curating an interactive community art space. The imagery will be generated by students based on personal memories. Students will explore the ways color, shape and pattern can express a mood, time, and place. Students will exhibit both two-dimensional and media art. The media art component will utilize a rotoscoping animation technique. Students will design a collaborative installation and community artmaking opportunity. This element will represent memories and the connections they form. Each museum visitor who experiences this space will be invited to participate in the construction of this evolving artwork. Stay tuned for more information and important dates! The exhibit will open in February 2020. Know Someone Interested in the CAA?
